SENER attended the Global Innovation Day 201717/05/2017 (Spain)
SENER engineering and technology group, which this year celebrates its 50th anniversary in the space industry, participated in the sixth edition of the Global Innovation Day event organised by Innobasque, the Basque Innovation Agency, at the Euskalduna Palace in Bilbao.
The Lehendakari (President of the Basque Government) Íñigo Urkullu visited the exhibition space yesterday at around 6 pm, accompanied by the Chairman of Innobasque, Alberto García Erauzkin, and the Minister of Economic Development and Competitiveness, Arantza Tapia. SENER's team, led by the company's Aerospace General Manager, José Julián Echevarría, shared SENER's history of half a century of space projects with Urkullu and the rest of the group, placing special emphasis on the company's first project in the sector, the Kiruna scientific rocket launch tower, still operational 50 years after its construction.
SENER, along with fifty different companies, was allocated a space where it displayed materials related to the 50th anniversary of the company's Space division. The booths were organised around four subject areas: globality, connectivity and relationships, enabling environments and welfare and quality of life. SENER's space was in the ‘globality’ area and was part of the ‘Time capsules’ circuit.
SENER brought the models of some of its most important space missions to this appointment with innovation: the Kiruna tower, GAIA, MSG or SEOSat Ingenio. Additionally, visitors were able to take a tour of each and every one of the projects carried out by the company during its five decades of work in Space, following a time line that begins in 1967 with the design and construction of the Kiruna scientific rocket launch tower in Sweden and ends with projects which will be launched in the near future, such as BepiColombo or JUICE.
Global Innovation Day is the great Basque innovation event. An open, dynamic and participative space that brings thousands of people together every year with the aim of creating connections and doing networking, exchanging knowledge and experiencing innovation first hand.
