SENER celebrates ten years after opening an office in the U.S. SENER is currently based at its Los Angeles headquarters under the management of Mercedes Sierra, SENER's Country Manager in the United States.

Since 2008, SENER has expanded its activity in the US considerably, directing noteworthy Infrastructure and Transport projects. These include the Gruen / Grimshaw Master Plan high-speed design for the Los Angeles Union Station, and the partnership with ACS to develop the first P3 transit project in Los Angeles - the re-opening of the landmark Angels Flight funicular railway in Los Angeles. For the California High Speed Rail Authority (CHSRA), SENER has overseen the preliminary engineering of the rail segment between Palmdale and Burbank, a section that crosses the San Gabriel Mountains. Recently, the CHSRA approved an extension to this contract. In addition, SENER is also integrally involved in construction projects for the CP2&3 and CP4 sections, currently underway in California’s Central Valley. In fact, SENER's high-speed raiL expertise made such a profound impression on CHSRA that they expressed their appreciation in an article on their website, citing the SENER engineers’ global renown in high-speed rail.
In the area of Renewables, Power, Oil & Gas, SENER has been involved in the development of the Genesis project, two 140 MWe per plant solar thermal power plants with SENERtrough® technology, in Barstow, California. In the Marine sector, SENER's technological know-how has also been recognized for its patented FORAN ship design and construction system. So much so, in fact, that the US Coast Guard chose SENER’s FORAN system to develop, manufacture, and supply its new series of highly advanced vessels.
SENER is also broadening its horizons in Aerospace, where it is a renowned Space, Defense and Aeronautics supplier with a proven track record of more than a half a century. That commitment to excellence continues today. In 2017, for example, the Nevada-based Sierra Nevada Corporation chose the International Berthing and Docking Mechanism, a critical piece of aerospace technology SENER developed with a European Space Agency consortium for use with the Dream Chaser spacecraft and its International Space Station docking system.

The President of SENER, Jorge Sendagorta, has been awarded the Honorary Member's medal, which is granted by the Spanish Institute of Engineering (Instituto de Ingeniería de España, IIE). This institution decided to give the distinction to Jorge Sendagorta after he was nominated by the Spanish Association of Naval and Ocean Engineers, in recognition of his professional career. According to the institution: “It's a prize to the engineer, but undoubtedly also to the engineering carried out at SENER, which is spearheading Spanish engineering around the world and in the most innovative sectors."[+]
